Honesty is a material

One does not speak about money, I was told when young. I think that is a mistake. About money above all one should speak clearly, calmly and without shame, for nothing poisons trust like a sum that hides. I have learned that honesty is a material, as tangible as wood or stone, and that you feel it in a room just the same.

What rooms reveal about attitude

A room built with honest materials rarely lies about the price. Lime plaster, old wood, a restored window that shows what it is, without varnish. I believe how someone handles material reveals how they handle people. Whoever covers nothing usually has nothing to hide. That is why I always look first at how honest the surfaces are.

The price that withstands a face

With every figure I ask myself, could I say it to the face of a person I will meet again tomorrow. That question disciplines more than any rule. It keeps the numbers honest, because closeness allows no excuses. Perhaps that is the real reason I love the personal, it forces you to be fair.

Trust is earned quietly

You do not win trust with grand words but with many small, kept ones. A price that is right. A promise that holds. An extra item that does not exist because it never did. Such a thing is not spoken loudly, it simply works. And in the end that is the loveliest form of luxury, the calm feeling of not being taken advantage of.
