Boat, Castle, Beach, a Whole Day

For children a boat is already half the adventure. We set off from the Vieux-Port, and the moment the ship pulls away everyone is wide awake. The Château d'If works well with children, a real fortress to touch, and afterwards on to Frioul, where the beach waits. That turns an outing into a whole, good day.

First the boat

The crossing takes barely twenty minutes, and they pass like nothing. Gulls, spray, the city growing smaller. Put the children up front, let them feel the wind. A boat already makes the way part of the destination.

A fortress to touch

On the island the imagination wakes up. Narrow stairs, thick walls, real cells, and the story of the prisoner who escaped. For small explorers it is a castle straight out of a book. Hold hands on the steps, there is wind up top, and then the view is yours.

On to Frioul, to the beach

Whoever still has energy goes on to the Frioul islands. There the coves are shallow and clear, perfect for a paddle after so much fortress. In the evening you head back, salty, tired, content. A day of boat, castle and sea, a child needs no more to fall happily asleep.
